A 100-year-old Woman Claims The Secret To A Long Life Is Gin

I’ve always said gin was great, but now a wise, 100-year-old woman has just gone and confirmed it – and who are we to disagree?

Mabel Jackson from Suffolk, England (who is so cute, BTW), has lived a long, happy, hundred-year life so far, and she’s recently revealed her secret: a gin and tonic every day. Now this is music to my ears, my friends.

We should clarify the details on this. Our Mabel doesn’t just have G&T a day, she drills through six glasses of the good stuff day in, day out. That’s an expensive habit to keep, I won’t lie.

Explaining to the Suffolk Gazette how she finds time to pack it all in, Mabel said, “I have two at lunchtime, one at tea time with a biscuit and then three more during the evening while I do my knitting.” Solid routine, Mabel. Solid routine.

“I swear the gin keeps me young!” she added. And the proof is in the pudding, isn’t it?

In the time she’s not drinking G&Ts, Mabel is busy doing the math to work out just how much of the spirit she’s consumed in her time.

“I worked it out one night when I couldn’t get to sleep. Instead of counting sheep, I counted gins. You get around 35 measures in a bottle, so as I always have six a day it takes me around a week to get through a bottle. I know this because I buy one every Wednesday from the Co-Op. On that basis I buy 52 bottles a year, making 4,264 bottles since I started. That’s quite an achievement!”
