Creation: Discovering New Horizons

Creation’s Carolyn Martin and Daniela Messina recently got out their passports and put on their globe-trotting shoes again – this time on a whirlwind tour of Belgium, Scandinavia, Estonia, the UK and the French Riviera. A fascinating variety of cultures, trends and flavours were the order of the day – all strung together by, yes, you’ve guessed it: the love of wine. Here is an abridged journal of their adventures.

4 and 5 September: Wonderful Copenhagen and Odense

Carolyn:

Denmark is one of my all-time favourites to visit: fabulous cuisine and design and a friendly forthright culture with people willing and open to discover new natural products. Creation fits perfectly into this milieu.

Not only did I have the chance to do exclusive trade tastings, but also had the opportunity to meet up with Jacob Kocemba, a Master Sommelier who visited South Africa along with a group of Scandinavian sommeliers brought out by WOSA quite a few years ago. Jacob recommended Creation Wines to the Løgismose group, who, famous as a purveyor of fine food and wines, was at the forefront of the food revolution that took place in Denmark over the last decade or so. This revolution has changed the world of food throughout Europe and the UK (even as far as Cape Town) and we experienced the evidence earlier this year in Estonia at the Creation 5-chef dinner held at Restaurant Monaco in Tallinn, and this time round at SALT.

4 and 5 September: Beautiful Brugge

Daniela:

This was my first visit to Brugge and it was love at first sight! The two-day trade tasting with Intervinos was great, everybody made me feel so welcome and it was lovely meeting up with wine lovers who had visited us at Creation before. Nico Terry from Intervinos suggested a local bistro for dinner and I just had to try the local beer and famous moules-frites – wonderful! Belgium of course is also renowned for its chocolates and wow, a big thank you to Patrick Vannoote of Wijnen Patrick Vannoote (specialising in quality wines from the Southern Hemisphere) for the most beautiful handcrafted chocolates made by the celebrated chocolatier Marijn Coertjens. Almost too pretty to eat!
