Elgin Chardonnay Credentials And Awards – The Best Chardonnay In SA

It was crowned The Best White Wine in South Africa. It scored 95 points in the Tim Atkin report. It was named the Best Chardonnay in SA – twice. It won the title of being the Best Elgin Chardonnay.

Our Elgin Chardonnay is one of our most awarded wines. Our white wine and MCC winemaker Lizelle Gerber is extremely proud of it, “Our Chardonnay has consistently been named the best in South Africa. This is not an honour we take lightly. With every harvest, we push to ensure that we are always delivering the best quality vintage. With so many fantastic Chardonnays coming out of SA currently, being called “the best” by such acclaimed panels is great praise indeed.”

Fashioned from hand-harvested grapes from mountain slope vineyards in the Bokkeveld region – distinguished by its rich soil that feeds into the Atlantic Ocean – our Elgin Chardonnay remains a true Boschendal original. Its grapes endure cooler than average days and nights, with slow ripening that produces all the hallmark characteristics of a sophisticated vintage. As with all our wines, the luxury white wine is a true showcase of artistry and craftsmanship – a priority for our winemakers.

The Elgin Chardonnay is known for its expressive grapefruit and golden apple aromas, with subtle hints of lime blossom, frangipani, white truffle and discreet vanilla oak spice. On the palate, the flavours are powerful yet intricate. Pronounced citrus fruit purity is layered with hints of oak and signature minerality, finishing with remarkable intensity and length. This has translated to high acclaim. Here is a list of the Elgin Chardonnay’s awards:
