KWV strengthening its reputation as Best Brandy Producer in the World

KWV is reinforcing its reputation as the Best Brandy Producer in the World, following another big industry award for its KWV Brandies at the 2016 Veritas Awards on Friday evening.

Judges on this year’s Brandy panel at the 2016 Veritas Awards – widely recognised as South Africa’s foremost wine and brandy competition – included  Cognac expert, Denis Lahouratate, Maître de Chai (Cellar Master) for the renowned Chateau Bisquit in Cognac, France. He, together with a panel of expert Cape Wine Masters, awarded KWV a Double Gold (a collective score of 17 or more out of 20) for the KWV Alambic 15-Year-Old Potstill Brandy, and Golds for its KWV 10-Year-Old Potstill Brandy, KWV 12-Year-Old Barrel Select Potstill Brandy and for its Laborie Alambic.

Earlier this year, KWV was awarded the prestigious title of World’s Best Brandy & Cognac Producer for the second year and World’s Best Brandy for its KWV 15-Year-Old Alambic Potstill Brandy – beating Cognacs and Brandies from 70 countries at the 2016 International Spirit Challenge (ISC) awards function, where it also received four Gold medals for KWV 20-Year-Old, KWV 15-Year-Old, KWV Imoya and KWV Laborie Alambic brandies.

KWV is the only producer to ever win the coveted Best Producer Award twice and with its additional four ISC Gold medal wins, KWV was crowned the best performing brandy producer overall at the ISC. The ISC is recognised as the most influential spirits competition in the world and involves days of intense blind tastings by a panel of more than 50 respected industry professionals.

On receiving these accolades, KWV Master Distiller, Lourens Stander, says that the Veritas Awards, together with the internationally acclaimed ISC medals, speaks towards KWV’s consistency in terms of quality.

“The Veritas Awards, which follows the recent ISC awards, confirms that KWV is a local favourite that can stand proudly next to the brandies and Cognacs of the world. We are very proud to add these accolades to our reputation as being a fine Brandy distiller,” he adds.

KWV has now, in the last 5 years, won “Best Brandy in the World” trophies for all its KWV Potstill Brandies – the 10-Year-Old, 12-Year-Old, 15-Year-Old, and 20-Year-Old – a collective vertical that indicates a consistent, through-the-line and world-class performance from this producer.
