Local football legends announced as Kings for Smirnoff Raga Bolo

Smirnoff is proud to announce that four local football legends will be adding their star quality to the Smirnoff Raga Bolo street soccer championship.

The Smirnoff Kings, former Orlando Pirates midfielders, Thabo Mngomeni and Benedict Vilakazi and former Kaizer Chiefs stars, Pollen Ndlanya and Stanton Fredericks, will travel to communities around the country as part of the Smirnoff Raga Bolo Championship roadshow. Fans will be able to meet the Kings, take photos with them and stand the chance to win great prizes.

Fans were given the chance to choose between Alex, Soweto, Katlehong or Soshanguve for the first Kings visit on the 28th of November. The successful, kick-off activation saw the Kings visit Soweto, the town that received the most votes, at Tsople’s Place, Moss Tavern, Kahleni Magents and Sanele’s Place. Fans can vote on the 1818 Clubhouse Facebook page to determine which taverns, in which regions, the Kings will visit next.

With the power of street soccer and the Smirnoff Raga Bolo Championship, anyone can become a soccer legend. The five-a-side street soccer championship is played by tavern teams around the country. With roads as the pitches and streetlights as the stadium, it’s the sporting tournament of the year for local communities nationwide.

“We’re excited to bring the Raga Bolo Championship back to Mzansi, for the first time since 2011. Having four football legends like Mngomeni, Vilakazi, Ndlanya and Fredericks on board is bound to make this Championship bigger and better than ever before,” says Kyle Lesch, Brand Manager of Smirnoff Vodka.

Check with your local tavern owner whether they are eligible for the Raga Bolo Championship and support your team by buying Smirnoff products. The tournament will kick-off in March 2016 and the Smirnoff Raga Bolo champions will be crowned in June 2016.
