Top three positions for Boplaas Cape Ports

Boplaas Family Vineyards was crowned the winner, and also obtained second and third place at the annual Wine-of-the-Month Club Cape Port tasting. This once again cements Boplaas’ position as the leaders in the production of Cape Port and Cape Portuguese variety table wines.

The dedicated efforts of crafting authentic Cape ‘Port’ styled fortifieds from Portuguese varietals continues to garner accolades. The winning Boplaas Cape Vintage Reserve Port 2013 also won a double platinum award at the SA Top 100 Wines in 2016 and was awarded the SA Champion Port Trophy at the SA Young Wine Show.  The 2013 Vintage Ports are marked by exceptional colour, tannin structure, fruit concentration and complexity, which will, after barrel maturation, blending and bottling, offer consumers enjoyment over the coming decades.

The second place went to the Boplaas Cape Vintage Reserve 2015, which also won the SA Champion Port Trophy at the SA Young Wine Show and a double platinum award at the SA Top 100 Wines. This exceptional product is crafted from a quartet of hand harvested old vine Portuguese varieties, and  utilising traditional vinification techniques, including extensive manual pigeage in open top lagares and ageing in old large format oak barrels, prior to bottling unfined and unfiltered.

A true testament to patience and craftsmanship, the Boplaas Cape Tanwy N/V is a blend of Tinta Barocca and Touriga Nacional, matured in old 500ℓ port pipes for eight to ten years prior to blending.  This results in a lusciously complex fortified with its amber colour, heady aromatics and nutty flavour profile.
