Graham Beck – leaders in winelands conservation

The Cape Fox Trophy for Best Conservancy in the Western Cape Central Area of the Conservation at Work organisation, this year went to the Rooiberg-Breede Conservancy. Proudly displaying the trophy and accompanying Gold Certificates, are Johan du Preez, CEO of Rooiberg Winery, and Mossie Basson, conservationist at Graham Beck Wines – neighbouring wine enterprises that played leading roles in this achievement. This Conservancy is one of 87 in the Western Cape – all registered with Cape Nature – and it comprises allocated land of 22 member farms.

Conservation at Work is a non-profit organisation that via the Table Mountain Fund supports the three Western Cape conservancy regions (Central, Eastern and Western) with educational days, training, signage provision and running the annual Cape Fox Awards. Basson, as conservation manager and head of Graham Beck Private Reserve on Madeba Farm near Robertson, is also the advisor to the Rooiberg-Breede Conservancy that comprises 13 500 ha of natural veld under careful conservation.
