Angostura isn’t all about cocktails, use bitters to spice up your favourite winter drink.

Time and time again, we’ve proven just how versatile Angostura aromatic bitters is. From adding complexity to cocktails to using it as your secret weapon in the kitchen, you can even add it to your next cuppa.

With the current ban, it’s the perfect time to get experimental with your bitters collection and add a #DashofWarmth to your evening. These winter recipes will truly warm your heart and are the perfect accompaniment to curling up on the couch with a binge-worthy series.

The Angostura Espresso aka ‘Noble Beast’ by Anders Erickson

Ingredients

  • 30ml Angostura aromatic bitters
  • 30ml chilled espresso
  • 1 whole egg (yolk and egg white)
  • 15ml demerara syrup

Instructions

  1. Shake all ingredients in an ice-filled shaker and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Sprinkle over espresso powder for garnish.

Bittered Hot Chocolate topped with Angostura Whipped Cream

For Bittered Hot Chocolate:

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 – 2 tablespoons sugar (depending on how sweet you like it)
  • 2 – 3 dashes Angostura aromatic bitters
  • 1 cup milk or milk alternative
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the cocoa, sugar, bitters, and about two tablespoons milk (or milk alternative) in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until cocoa and sugar are completely dissolved.
  2. Stir in the rest of the milk and heat it over medium heat, whisking occasionally, until it is hot. Stir in the vanilla and serve. 
  3. If you like it frothy, blend it in the blender. 

For Angostura Whipped Cream:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tablespoon simple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • dashes Angostura aromatic bitters

Instructions

  1. Using an electric mixer or stand mixer fitted with the whisk, beat heavy whipping cream at high speed until soft peaks form, then add simple syrup, vanilla extract and bitters. Whip until medium peaks form, about one minute longer.

Bitters with Coffee

  • 1 – 2 teaspoons of your favourite instant coffee
  • Hot water
  • Sugar (depending on how sweet you like it)
  • Milk (optional)
  • 2 – 3 dashes Angostura aromatic bitters

Instructions

  1. Add your coffee, sugar and hot water to your coffee mug and stir.  Throw in your dash of bitters and then milk. Enjoy!

Tea n Bitters

  • Tea bag (whichever is your preference)
  • Hot Water
  • Maple syrup
  • 2 – 3 dashes Angostura aromatic bitters
  • sugar
  • Milk (optional)

Instructions

  1. Add a tea bag with hot water in a cup and stir. Wait patiently while your tea bag steeps. Give it a squeeze and remove.
  2. Mix the maple syrup and bitters and add to tea. If you like, add sugar and milk.
