Cue shreeks of laughter from Biggie Smalls (Diners director Reg Lascaris) and observant Muslim Ebrahim Matthews (Diners MD) at this most excellent piece of guerrilla marketing and red faces all round at FNB.

It was nice to see Platter editor silver fox Phil van Zyl (above) at the opening of the new all-singing, all-dancing tasting room at Rupert & Rothschild in Franschhoek last night. Not that R&R submit their wines to Platter for rating, probably on account of the grossly unfair procedure of rating the wines sighted by the notoriously partial palates of Tim James, Angela LLoyd and other pensioners who couldn’t make the opening last night. Perhaps because they were not invited or was the 7pm kickoff past their bedtime?
