The Cape is home to ⅙ of the planet’s floral kingdoms and the fynbos is the only floristic region wholly inside a single country. Fynbos has more diversity than a tropical rainforest, so it makes sense that the Cape’s distillers are finally discovering gin. A white spirit flavoured with botanicals.

Most gin is made from distilled molasses flavoured with juniper berries or slices of cucumber. But this winter, two new gourmet gins have been released that are made from distilled wine: Rolf’s #69 from Blaauwklippen in Stellenbosch and Cruxland by KWV which is flavoured with truffles from the Kalahari.

The classic means of delivery is tonic water, with or without a dash of Angostura Bitters. G&T. We’ve bought stock of T from Fitch and Leedes, crystal glasses from Crystal Direct and this coming First Thursday 3rd September we’ll be hosting a GinGin shoot-out at the Pendock Wine Gallery @ Taj in Wale Street, Cape Town. Just down the road from The Gin Bar in what used to be Liam Mooney’s furniture showroom on Wale and round the corner from Mother’s Ruin on Bree Street.

For a taste of the future and to welcome Spring, come and enjoy a couple of G&Ts made by two frisky barmen Dominic from Societi Bistro and Connor of Crew Bar fame. Snap a selfie, twirl a topknot and klits your bolla, why don’t you.
