The Best Drinks and Outfits to Celebrate St Patrick’s Day

Irish or not, St Patrick’s Day is a big celebration for a lot of people. And like most celebrations, that means drinks. Even better – it means themed drinks. Whether you like fancy cocktails or you like to keep things simple and old fashioned (or whether you just like an Old Fashioned cocktail), there’s something for everybody. In fact, there’s plenty of choice and no need for two people to be drinking the same thing – unless they want to, of course.

So, what should you be drinking on St Patrick’s day? And what should you be wearing? Let’s find out.

The Drinks

You don’t need to be drinking alcohol on St Paddy’s day, but it helps. What’s more, it’s almost traditional. Here are four delicious drinks that you should definitely try out.

  • Guinness

It’s simple, it’s delicious, and it’s traditional. Guinness is the world-famous smooth dry stout, commonly toted to have plenty of iron, and therefore being actually good for you. This amazing stout is native to Ireland, and it’s often said that you haven’t tried a real Guinness unless you’ve drunk one in Ireland.

  • The Grasshopper

The Grasshopper is a famous green cocktail made from green creme de menthe, white creme de cacao, and cream. While there are a few different variations of a Grasshopper – served with chocolate and/or mint, or made with vodka – one thing stays the same. It’s a green cocktail. While you can dye various cocktails to look green on St Paddy’s day, the Grasshopper feels like a classic.

  • Irish coffee

Once again, there are a few different varieties of this drink, but one thing stays the same – it’s coffee and Irish whiskey, all mixed into one delicious drink. Irish coffee is creamy, frothy, caffeinated, and definitely alcoholic. It’s a great choice if you like a warmer, stronger drink.

  • Bailey’s

Bailey’s is another classic St Patrick’s day drink, and it’s very versatile. You can make up a hot toddy with Bailey’s, or an Irish coffee float. Sweet, smooth, and very moreish, Bailey’s is a much-loved drink for a reason.

The Outfits

Now it’s time to decide what you’re going to wear. Whether you like to dress up to the nines or just dress comfortably, one thing is for sure – it has to be green.

  • Anything with a four-leafed clover

Four-leafed clovers are pretty much a requirement for celebrating St Patrick’s day. And if you can’t find one, you can always wear one.

  • Themed t-shirts

Themed t-shirts are a great way to stay comfortable while encapsulating the general St Paddy’s day spirit. Plus, t-shirts are easier to wash than fancy clothes if you spill your Guinness/Grasshopper/Irish Coffee/Bailey’s. St Patrick’s t-shirts are funny, cute, and usually suitable to wear all year round.

No matter what you decide to wear, or drink, or even if you don’t drink anything, you can still have a great time and celebrate St Patrick’s day your way – preferably with a large group of friends or family!
