Tim Atkin rates Hartenberg wines amongst his favourites

In his third annual guide to Cape wine, internationally acclaimed wine journalist Tim Atkin MW hails South Africa as the most dynamic and exciting winemaking country in the New World.

Hartenberg Wine Estate, situated in the iconic Stellenbosch Winelands has been included in the sought after list of the Top 150 South African Producers. The Eleanor Chardonnay 2013 (rated 93/100) is featured on his list of the Best Chardonnays, with the Gravel Hill Shiraz 2010 (rated 94/100) and Stork Shiraz 2011 (rated 93/100) making it onto the list for the Best Syrah. The Mackenzie 2011 (rated 94/100) earned a spot on the Best Bordeaux Blend list.

Following in their footsteps the following wines received more than 90 points out of a potential 100:

Completing this oustanding news for Hartenberg is that Tim Atkin has classified the estate at the top of the Second Growth list, which forms part of his annual classification of the Cape Wine Industry. This list is based on the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, where he uses quality as opposed to price as the only criteria.
