With innovation a major part of their DNA, the Creation team won’t let the lockdown get them down, says Carolyn Martin.
Yes, the ban on wine sales is continuing and our Tasting Room remains closed, but we as a team are now focusing on how to use these setbacks as a challenge to metamorphose – and that, for the better! Strategy meetings of our core team start every morning at 10h00 on Zoom. We catch up on what we’ve been working on at home, brain storm about future developments and in the process we’ve seen ourselves grow, individually and as a team. We’ve developed skills that have been dormant; we support and encourage each other – all with the wellbeing of our Creation clients as well as our team in mind. We look at issues that the rest of the team, the industry as a whole and our immediate community may be facing. Our meetings are not only problem-solving but also address new opportunities within this changing environment.
A particular point of focus has been online shopping as e-commerce is a perfect way of social distancing and of course delivers maximum convenience. And do we have a surprise in store for you! We’re now proudly offering our brand-new Quick Shop option to all our customers. This enables you to set up your own account with us and should you prefer, even select your own Creation Personal Shopper from a team of highly experienced consultants. They offer professional support in purchasing your wine and tailoring your wine and food pairing experience. We look forward to your feedback!
Activities in the cellar continue, albeit with a drastically reduced cellar team. The cellar has its cycle and now that the last of the grapes have been pressed, the filling of barrels is the order of the day. Nurturing these precious wines until final bottling and release is of course an on-going concern.
Among all the chaos there has been so much for which to be grateful. Thank you to our clients for your orders throughout the lockdown. Your faith in us is heart-warming and we cannot wait to deliver your wines. Thank you to the farmers and all sponsors for supporting our #CreationNation and especially for the significant donations from producers and manufacturers to our local Overstrand/Greater Hermanus community. Creation has been working with industry bodies, lobbying journalists and submitting amendments to the Level 4 Schedule regarding the ban on alcohol, exports and e-commerce this last week. Thank you André de Lange, Michael Farr and journalists from around the world, including South Africa, who support us in this mission.
So, when asked what we’ve been up to during the lockdown, we can confidently say that we’ve hardly been resting on our laurels, pulling out all stops to recreate an even better Creation experience for our clients.
