Wine of the week: Graham Beck Brut Rose NV

Wine of Origin: Western Cape

Winemaker: Pierre de Klerk

Cellarmaster:  Pieter Ferreira

Background:  Graham Beck Wines outside Robertson, have been at the forefront of producing quality Methode Cap Classique wines since the launch of their first Brut NV in 1991. The man who has been behind the production of this fine fizz since inception is Pieter “Bubbles” Ferreira who heads up the team as Cellar Master with Pierre de Klerk as his winemaker since 2010. Today they produce seven bubblies including a Blanc de Blanc, a Demi-sec and their flagship the Cuvee Clive. The Brut Rose NV is a blend of the two classic bubbly grapes, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, which were sourced from farms in Robertson and Stellenbosch. The grapes were whole bunched pressed and later the juice fermented separately, after which the wines were blended prior to second fermentation which takes place in bottle as with all Cap Classiques, and once complete the wine was left for several months on the lees allowing for extra richness.

Result:
A delicately pink hue with a lively cascading sparkle, aromas of cherries and red berries with elegant layers of finesse and decadence on the palate.
