Summer brings with it many wonderful things. Long lazy days at the pool, sipping ice-cold cocktails, leisurely lunches and of course delectably sweet seasonal fruit. Look no further than De Krans Wines in Calitzdorp – the top TripAdvisor’s destination in Calitzdorp – for two of these summer sensations. During the months of November through to February De Krans invites visitors to partake in a farm favourite of picking seasonal fruit.

De Krans Wines has continued to bring home the awards, and the latest accolades to join an already impressive line-up are those from the Ultra Value Wine Challenge 2019/2020 results.

With Summer in full bloom the De Krans Free Run Chenin Blanc 2019 is the perfect celebration of the warmer days and Summer-inspired food. This wine is packed with tropical fruit flavours as a result of using only the free run juice (the first batch of juice before the grapes are pressed), The fruit character gives the wine a full mouthfeel and has a fresh, balanced acidity. The wine is light enough to drink on its own while also pairing well with fish or chicken dishes, salads or pastas.

So far its been a sparkling awards season for De Krans Wines, with more accolades to add to its lengthy list. The latest in the line-up being the 2019 Muscat de Frontignan, which received a Platinum Award at the 2019 Michelangelo International Wine Awards. The awards took place on 4 October at a special gala event in Cape Town. To have earned this prestigious Platinum medal, this wine had to be considered a world-class creation by the panel with a minimum of 96 points out of a possible 100 points. There were only 14 wines from more than 2 000 wines entered that won Platinum at this competition this year.

The De Krans Pinotage Rosé has done it again. For the 2nd year in a row, it has been awarded the prestigious Double Gold medal at the recent Rosé Rocks competition. This year the award was bestowed on the 2019 vintage.

Awards season is in full swing and De Krans Wines is bringing home the awards, earning a Double Gold and Gold at the recent 2019 Vitis Vinifera Awards.

De Krans Wines, traditionally well-known for their port-style wines, has successfully made a name for themselves in recent years with producing exceptional Portuguese dry wines (including the Tritonia Calitzdorp Blend, which recently won the Trophy for Best Red Blend at the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show for the second time). In addition, they have also produced innovative wines such as their Premium Moscato Perlé and their classic varietal range, which includes a Free Run Chenin Blanc, Wild Ferment Chardonnay, Pinotage Rosé and Basket Press Cabernet Sauvignon.

Reaffirming its position as one of SA’s leading port producers, De Krans was one of the big winners at this year’s Cape Port Producers Association (CAPPA) Port & Wine Challenge, with the results announced on 5 September.
