Exactly ten years after the establishment of the wine estate Benguela Cove near Hermanus, it now triumphed by taking the standout Vertex award among 1 247 selected entries at the 2023 Veritas Awards with its 2019 Joie de Vivre Cap Classique.

 

The family-owned Boplaas has unveiled its latest single malt whisky, a unique expression showcasing not only a fine spirit but the farm’s legacy as a champion port-wine maker too. In producing the outstanding spirit, Boplaas becomes one of very few in the world to have aged a single malt in casks that once held port the winery had crafted itself.

 

The Boplaas name is synonymous with excellence. Included in its achievements, the family-owned winery has won almost as many Double Gold awards at Veritas – South Africa’s longest-running championship – as the 33-year-old show has been held. Much of this, it owes to its association with Portugal.

 

Boplaas wines were among the very best performers at the annual Veritas Wine & Spirits Awards, announced last weekend. The winery received one of the few double gold medals presented, and two golds.
