This is what the Cape’s very first visitors thought about the South African winelands

This week will see over 1,000 visitors from more than 40 countries descend on the Cape Town International Convention Centre for Cape Wine 2018, which aims to showcase how the quality of wine produced on our shores has improved exponentially over the past couple of decades.


Is the Craft Brew Industry Fizzling?

Many reports indicate that the craft brew industry may have peaked, including a recent Chicago Tribune article that notes in 2017, while there were nearly 1,000 new brewery openings across the nation, there were 165 closures, a 42 percent increase over 2016, with 116 craft breweries closing that year. That’s not the case in all areas of the country, however. If you just bought one of the Houston homes as so many have recently in this hot real estate market, you’re living in a city that still has a growing industry, most recently ranked at 46th in the nation in terms of number of breweries per capita.

In his seventh annual guide to South Africa, award-winning British journalist and Master of Wine Tim Atkin contends that the 2015 and 2017 vintages have produced a brilliant series of wines that surpass anything in the country’s long history, and that they are “two of the best ever harvests” in the Cape.


Boschendal’s Flagship Wines Celebrate Tim Atkin Accolades

One of the world’s pre-eminent wine journalists Tim Atkin has awarded eight of Boschendal’s iconic wines an impressive 90 points or more in his latest report. The Boschendal Elgin Chardonnay 2016  was the estate’s top scorer in the Tim Atkin 2018 South African Wines Report, which received 95 points, adding to the many accolades and awards received by winemaker Lizelle Gerber’s vibrant and intricate creation. It was one of just 159 out of 1980 wines to score 95 points or more.
