Syrah is a noble grape variety which produces wine with robust spiciness, deep colour and dense, smoky, fruit characteristics.

Shiraz is able to age for many years, even decades, due to its complex tannins, good body and high acidity. Shiraz thrives in the South African growing conditions of icy cold, wet winters and glorious hot summers.

The Cape Town Nu World Music Festival takes place over the Mandela Day Weekend of the 17th and 18th of July 2015.

The chilly winter evenings are the best time to snuggle up indoors with a hearty meal and low-lit candles.

Pumphouse Shiraz is our feature wine for this month’s #WineWednesdays. Backsberg`s Pumphouse Shiraz is part of the top-tiered wine range, the Black Label range.

All wine barrels at Backsberg are, after a life lived in the cellar storing wine, converted by our carpenter Hilton Arendse into beautiful pieces of furniture.

Encounters is Africa’s premier documentary festival, running from 4 to 14 June 2015 in Cape Town and Johannesburg.

Over its four generations, Backsberg has cultivated a belief of wholesome and sustainable farming, never wavering on high quality and consistency. This carries from the vineyard and cellar into our restaurant.

Backsberg has run an intervarsity wine competition called the Vino Varsity Challenge for the last 6 years. The challenge has seen university wine societies compete against each other.

Backsberg is excited to host the first annual GSB Vino Varsity Challenge between two prestigious Graduate Business Schools.
